Hemp CBD Cream

CBD AKA Cannabidiol are utilized in many ways when it comes to pain relief or help with discomforting skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis. For those who don’t want to ingest traditional pain pills, a topical product may be a great alternative solution. Hemp CBD cream is exactly that!

A CBD topical product is any type of lotion, salve, or cream containing CBD extract and is meant to be applied directly onto the skin. CBD topical solutions are extremely promising for the relief of pain and inflammation. This is the reason why the American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting of 2018 recommended using CBD infused products in support of traditional treatment for psoriasis, acne, and eczema.

CBD topical products depend on the source of the CBD, the quality of the CBD, and of course, the dosage or strength of the CBD within the topical.

Why Hemp?

First, when thinking about CBD cream hemp, let’s consider what CBD is and where it can be found. CBD is an abbreviation for Cannabidiol. Cannabis plants such as marijuana and hemp both contain well over one hundred types of natural cannabinoids, which are chemical components of the plants themselves.  Probably, the most famous cannabinoid is THC or tetrahydrocannabinol. THC used in larger doses is what produces the “high” associated with marijuana use. Other cannabinoids, however, offer help for pain and inflammation without the psychoactive side effect. Cannabidiol is one of these. It is not intoxicating and is present in both marijuana and hemp plants.

What is Hemp used for anything else?

Hemp, often referred to as “industrial” hemp refers to commercial purposes thanks to the many derived products that make use of its components. As early as 50,000 years ago, hemp was spun into fiber, and now can be found in all sorts of products that we use daily such as

  • Food
  • Clothing and textiles
  • Insulation and paint
  • Paper
  • Biodegradable plastic
  • Biofuel

and even animal feed.

In December 2018, it became legal to grow hemp in the U.S. thanks to the federal Hemp Farming Act that was included in the 2018 Farm Bill. 47 states now permit farmers to grow hemp legally and it is a recognized agricultural commodity. Although both hemp and marijuana are part of the cannabis Sativa species of plant, they are two unique strains with two different chemical compositions. Hemp has a higher concentration of Cannabidiol and a much lower THC component. Said simply, hemp provides the benefits without the risks of psychoactive side effects which is a big plus when using Hemp CBD cream.

Hemp CBD vs. Marijuana CBD

Whether CBD comes from from hemp or marijuana, it remains virtually identical molecularly speaking. It makes no difference pharmaceutically from which of the two plants the CBD comes from.  The component is the same. That being said, some factors contribute to their differences:

  •  A principal difference is present in the amount of resin for each plant. Marijuana plants have generous amounts of resin, while hemp plants have much less. Therefore, a greater quantity of hemp is required for CBD extraction.
  • Contamination figures into the discussion. Most industrial hemp now comes from the US with strict regulations regulating the interdiction of chemical pesticides use. This guarantees the safety of the source. And there is often third-party testing.
  • When choosing a CBD hemp oil cream, consumers will find three types of CBD descriptions on products:
  • CBD isolate which is pure CBD (Cannabidiol) with no other cannabinoids including THC
  • Broad-spectrum CBD which contains other cannabinoids but again without THC
  • Full-spectrum CBD which contains all cannabinoids including CBD and THC among others

Some consumers will prefer hemp CBD isolates to avoid any THC or other cannabinoids, depending on their medical condition (1).

  • CBD extracted from marijuana tends to contain higher levels of THC and has a differing terpene imprint.

The law will often help consumers decide on a Hemp CBD Cream. As of 2018, industrial hemp and CBD which comes from hemp is now legal in all 50 states.  CBD products coming from the marijuana plant can be purchased in states where medical cannabis is legal for use by adults.

Is Hemp Cream the same as CBD Cream?

No, most hemp creams come from from hemp seeds which means they may not contain any CBD at all. In the case of A Hemp Cream containing CBD, it’s label will make references to CBD oil, a CBD isolates, or even Hemp oil that is “full-spectrum”. Hemp seed oil or hemp seed is not an indication that CBD is among the ingredients. Research to make sure you know what you’re buying.

Hemp Cream vs. CBD Cream

CBD oil and hemp seed oil infused in creams are very different oils. While hemp seed oil is made from the hemp seed of the cannabis Sativa plant species, these seeds do not contain CBD.  CBD oil, when produced uses flowers, leaves, and stalks of the hemp plant. These plant components contain high concentrations of CBD. So, when considering CBD cream vs. hemp cream, keep in mind if you are looking for the specific benefits from one cream as opposed to the other.

Hemp CBD Cream Benefits

Benefits reported from the use of CBD hemp cream include pain relief and the reduction of inflammation in problem areas such as muscle soreness, swollen joints, and even open wounds. Some patients find relief for eczema, psoriasis, and even acne when using hemp CBD cream. The use of a hemp CBD cream is thought to activate the body’s endocannabinoids to reduce inflammation and consequentially pain too.

With all things considered, cannabinoid therapy is in its early stages: so, much depends on the symptoms being specifically treated. Hence, it is still considered an individualistic treatment. Experimenting with some hemp-derived CBD creams with varying dosages of CBD will be the key to finding the best hemp CBD cream for your specific needs.

Where Should I Get My CBD Cream?

This is a great question: A lot of research has taken place to answer this question because this is literally a make or break question. A lot of the efficacy of a CBD cream comes from the ingredients, therefore the ingredients used to make the cream itself dictates its quality also.

There are lots of products available out there, selecting the right CBD cream can be challenging and confusing.
